 The next name on the newly revised Memorial List after William Clarence Robinson III, Amherst College Class of 1968, is Harold Wade, Jr., Amherst College Class of 1968.  Harold is arguably the most influential African American student in the history of Amherst College.  A graduate of Andrew Jackson High School in Queens, New York, Harold had an active career at Amherst College.  He was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity; wrote for The Amherst Student; and worked at WAMH. However, his most important activism came with the Students for Racial Equality and with the creation of the Amherst Afro-American Society.  Harold was brilliant.  He was good with people, and he was good with his books.  After graduation from Amherst College, Harold attended Harvard Law School where he earned a law degree.  He then embarked on a career in public service that was full of promise ... a promise cut short by Harold's death by drowning on June 29, 1974.  There...

 The next name on the newly revised Memorial List after Carl Anthony Galloway, Amherst College Class of 1968, and  Jaafar Kassem-Ali, Amherst College Class of 1968, is William Clarence Robinson III, Amherst College Class of 1968.  Not much is known about  William Clarence Robinson III or Bill as he was known at Amherst.  He graduated from McKinley High School and majored in French at Amherst.  After graduation from Amherst College, Bill attended Georgetown University Law School where he earned a law degree.  He became a real estate broker in 1978 and remained so for the remainder of his life.  He died on May 30, 1995.   While not much is known about William Clarence Robinson III, one notable activity that he engaged in while at Amherst College was the Amherst Afro-Am, new organization focused on the concerns of the growing number of African American students who began to appear on the Amherst College campus in the late 1960s.  This ...

  Thanks to the work of Julia Carroll, the Senior Researcher & Assistant Project Manager for the Amherst College Racial Reckoning Project, along with the enthusiastic work of Jack Hailey, Amherst College Class of 1967, and the always valuable insights of the departed Ulric Haynes, Amherst College Class of 1952, a new name has been added to the Memorial List, the name of Robert Gilbert "Gil" Roberts.  Gil Roberts was a longtime janitor at Amherst College, after a remarkable career as an international banjo player extraordinaire.  Gil is also, at 106, the longest living member of the Amherst College community, surpassing the 105 years of longevity achieved by   Gardner Watts, Amherst College Class of 1935.   Below is the recent announcement for the appointment of Adrienne White-Faines as the new President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Illinois.
