A00121 - In Praise of Jessie Isabelle Price, the Duck Doctor


It is Black History Month and yesterday I went to Costco and bought some eggs.  For most, there may be no connection between celebrating Black History and purchasing eggs.  However, by "coincidence" I stumbled on the wikipedia listing for Jessie Isabelle Price this morning


and I then was compelled to read the Ebony magazine article from almost 60 years ago about this scientific wonder


They say that the scarcity of eggs is due to the outbreak of avian flu that has killed millions of chickens


Perhaps, Dr. Price still has a lot to teach us about avian flu prevention even now, long after she has been gone


Something to think about on this February morn.

A00143 - Hot off the press: Manhattan Beach apologizes!

I received an email a few moments ago from my Amherst College classmate, Peter Alfvin, who is a resident of Manhattan Beach ... and who has been keeping me informed of the City discussions concerning the return of the Bruce Beach property to my Bruce Family relatives and the compensation paid along with the protracted process of the Bruce Family receiving an apology for what was done to the family one hundred years ago.  Peter's email title says it all and the attached newspaper article says it all.   At long last, the City of Manhattan Beach has apologized to the Bruce Family.  Now, finally, ... maybe ... the reconciliation can begin. Peter, lunch is on me when next I come down your way.  We have much to talk about my friend. A00370 - 2024 Jenkins Family Update

2024 was a year of significant highlights.  However, the theme for the year just might be "The Year of Reconciliation" or put another way, "The Return of Sparkle." My Music: A00019 - Irene Cara, R. I. P. The year of events began with my return to the Philippines and by spending Martin Luther King's Birthday (January 15) on Siargao Island.  Siargao is known for its surfing and, while I do not surf, I made a special point of visiting the surfing Mecca known as Cloud Nine just to be grateful for being "Free at Last".  My Music: A00061 - Cloud 9 on MLK Day Later on, I spent some quiet time on the beach of the Siargao Beach Club where I had a nice conversation with God.  A00229 - A Day at the Beach with God I do not think that God is done with me yet.
