A00332 - Orange Shirt Day 2024

Today, September 30, 2024, is Orange Shirt Day in Canada.  It is also known as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation




Our Canadian Cousins are further along on this issue than we are in this country.  However, in time, with enough education on the issue, I believe that Americans can also become more aware of the need for truth and reconciliation in this country as well.  With that in mind, I recommend that everyone read about the reports that have been prepared over the last few years concerning the abuse of Native Children in federal boarding schools. Please take a look at these reports and keep in mind that these reports only pertain to federal boarding schools.  The abuse of Native Children in Catholic and Christian boarding schools adds an additional magnitude of horror.

A00143 - Hot off the press: Manhattan Beach apologizes!

I received an email a few moments ago from my Amherst College classmate, Peter Alfvin, who is a resident of Manhattan Beach ... and who has been keeping me informed of the City discussions concerning the return of the Bruce Beach property to my Bruce Family relatives and the compensation paid along with the protracted process of the Bruce Family receiving an apology for what was done to the family one hundred years ago.  Peter's email title says it all and the attached newspaper article says it all.   At long last, the City of Manhattan Beach has apologized to the Bruce Family.  Now, finally, ... maybe ... the reconciliation can begin. Peter, lunch is on me when next I come down your way.  We have much to talk about my friend.
