A00348 - James Alphonso Curtis (Amherst College Class of 1933), Barringer High School Graduate and Long Time Lawyer

 The next name on my Memorial List is James Alphonso Curtis, a member of the Amherst College Class of 1933.  James Curtis was a graduate Barringer High School, presumably the Barringer High School located in Newark, New Jersey

James attended Amherst College where he was a member of the Amherst College football team.  James also ran outdoor track for Amherst College.  He was a philosophy major and graduated in 1933.  

After graduation from Amherst College in 1933, James became a lawyer.  It is not known where he went to law school.  However, he is listed as having practiced law from January 1937 to September 2001.  He appears to have been a self-employed lawyer throughout his legal career.

A00143 - Hot off the press: Manhattan Beach apologizes!

I received an email a few moments ago from my Amherst College classmate, Peter Alfvin, who is a resident of Manhattan Beach ... and who has been keeping me informed of the City discussions concerning the return of the Bruce Beach property to my Bruce Family relatives and the compensation paid along with the protracted process of the Bruce Family receiving an apology for what was done to the family one hundred years ago.  Peter's email title says it all and the attached newspaper article says it all.   At long last, the City of Manhattan Beach has apologized to the Bruce Family.  Now, finally, ... maybe ... the reconciliation can begin. Peter, lunch is on me when next I come down your way.  We have much to talk about my friend. Sadly, the 75th-year anniversary of the Nakba has predictably proven to be woefully tragic.
