A00350 - Clifton Wharton, Jr. and Clifton Wharton, Sr.

I noted with interest the recent passing of Clifton Wharton

In reading about his numerous firsts and numerous accomplishments, I found myself curiously uninspired.  I think part of my lack of enthusiasm about the accomplishments of Clifton Wharton, Jr. stems from my knowledge of the accomplishments of his father Clifton Wharton, Sr., who carved out a 40-year career in the State Department and actually overcame consignment to the "Negro Circuit" assignments to be appointed Ambassador to Norway.

When a person is the offspring of a Clifton Wharton, Sr., is a life such as the one of Clifton Wharton, Jr., such a major accomplishment?  And given the actual careers that were pursued by both Clifton Wharton, Sr. and Clifton Wharton, Jr., how should they serve to inspire a kid from Victorville, California?
