A00397 - Must See TV for the Month of March 2025: PBS: Thomas Jefferson

 

I may be a little late in the month, but for the Month of March 2025 I have chosen the refurbished Ken Burns documentary on Thomas Jefferson as the Must See TV for the month


In watching the documentary, one can see the seeds which were sown two hundred and fifty years ago which have produced such abundant fruit in these days of now. It is only fitting that the documentary is watched now as we reflect on the course correction that may be needed and what that course correction should be. 

I also found the documentary to be quite profound in reflecting on the troubled life and legacy that was that of Thomas Jefferson.  The old adage of the "sins of the father are visited on the son" seemed to be quite appropriate not just in the personal life of the American icon but also on the country which his words helped to give birth.

"Thomas Jefferson" is Must See TV indeed.

A00143 - Hot off the press: Manhattan Beach apologizes!

I received an email a few moments ago from my Amherst College classmate, Peter Alfvin, who is a resident of Manhattan Beach ... and who has been keeping me informed of the City discussions concerning the return of the Bruce Beach property to my Bruce Family relatives and the compensation paid along with the protracted process of the Bruce Family receiving an apology for what was done to the family one hundred years ago.  Peter's email title says it all and the attached newspaper article says it all.   At long last, the City of Manhattan Beach has apologized to the Bruce Family.  Now, finally, ... maybe ... the reconciliation can begin. Peter, lunch is on me when next I come down your way.  We have much to talk about my friend.
