Scott High School in Toledo, Ohio, Fred was a stellar student. At Amherst, he majored in political science and was named to the national honor society known as Delta Sigma Rho Forensics. He won the Hardy, Kellogg, Billings and Crowell prizes. He was on the College Crew team and the College Wrestling Team. He joined Kappa Theta fraternity and was active on the Debate Council. In recognition of his academic and forensic abilities, Fred was accepted to Harvard Law School.
After graduating from Harvard Law School, Fred began his legal career by working for the NAACP. He worked with the NAACP from 1964 to 1968 and then as Chief Mortgage Officer and Assistant to the President with the Carver Federal Savings and Loan Association from 1968 to 1972 and Executive Director of Harlem Teams for Self-Help, Inc. from 1972 to 1997.
Fred Lewis Wallace is reported as having died on October 8, 1997. No In Memory piece was written for Fred and no obituary could be found.
