A00457 - Reflections on the Amherst College Black Alumni Memorial Service on November 6, 2025: The Time for Remembrance by Everett Jenkins
After the Libation Ceremony by Junius Williams came "The Time for Remembrance: Honoring Those Who Have Joined the List of Ancestors Since the Last Reading of the Names". This addition of names for this Memorial Service was extraordinary in that over fifty new names were added to List since the 2021 Memorial Service. This rather significant increase in names came about due to the work of Matt Randolph, Class of 2016, whose "Remembering Dunbar" article was the source of a large number of previously unknown Black Alumni along with the work of the students and staff associated with the Amherst College Racial Reconciliation Project. Below is the list of the additional names. It represents an historical expansion of the African American presence at Amherst College -- a presence which we have only begun to fully understand.
