The first episode of Black and Jewish America: An Interwoven History aired last night, and Russell's comments set forth below were prescient. Most striking for me was to see the composition of the first board of the NAACP and the truly special role that Julius Rosenwald -- one of the founders of Sears Roebuck -- played in educating so many African Americans during the era of Jim Crow. I again recommend that all who can do watch this series. It is informative in so many ways.

Thanks for sending this message, Skip.
I expect that Gates will cover the creation and legacy of The Julius Rosenwald Fund (Foundation), which directly impacted both of my parents.
My mother attended Juilliard in 1945-46 through a Rosenwald Fellowship.
My father and his siblings attended elementary school in a schoolhouse built in 1925 through the persistence of my grandfather and other determined Black parents in Harford County, MD. The construction of the schoolhouse was funded in part by a grant from the Rosenwald Foundation---one of 5,000 elementary schools for Black children that Rosenwald helped to create).

Subject: Must See TV for the Month of December 2025: PBS and Amazon Prime: Becoming Thurgood: Ameriica's Social Architect
I have just finished watching Becoming Thurgood: America's Social Architect
Along with presenting the trailblazing legal career of Thurgood Marshall, the documentary also highlights the foundation laid by Charles Hamilton Houston, Amherst College Class of 1915, in making Thurgood Marshall into the Social Architect that he became. I would have liked to see more of the personality of Thurgood Marshall displayed in the documentary but overall, I consider the documentary to be well worth watching for everyone. Accordingly, I am making "Becoming Thurgood: America's Social Architect" my Must See TV recommendation for the Month of December 2025.
Please note that this offering is not only available on PBS it is also available on Amazon Prime. So please do view it and let me know what you think.
Peace,
